What Now?

By now we all have seen the results of the 2016 presidential election. Without a clear mandate, and with less than half of the popular vote, Donald Trump has taken the presidency.

What that means for the country, that I served for 22 years in the US military and countless other years in the fight for justice and peace, is still unclear.

If you backed Hillary Clinton you are no doubt still in shock and weighed down by a sorrowful sense of loss.

What now?

Don’t give in to a paralyzing sense of powerlessness.

Maintain your integrity. Find an organization that believes in what you believe in and become an active member. Work really hard for justice and peace among nations.

Fight hate in all the many forms it may begin to take; racebaiting, islamophobia, homophobia, hateful actions and violence against vulnerable groups, by any peaceful means necessary.

Stay strong, stand united, and we’ll ride out these next few years together.
