Savor the Summer in Wisconsin Poetry Challenge: Day 4 Nocturnal Creatures

Nocturnal Creatures

Glowing eyes lock with mine,

chickens cluck loud well past their bedtime,

worried wondering

will we be next on foxes menu?

Bats swoop and sway to their own music

undetectable to human ears.

Invisible beauty of the moth’s wing will never be discerned

unless it flies to close to the flame.

Insomnia’s rare advantage brings me into the quiet still night

to inhabit the world with

God’s nocturnal creatures.
